CHARLES EUGENE WILSON JR.
DAPHNE — Charles Eugene Wilson Jr., 91, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998,
at a local nursing facility. The Birmingham native was a member of Pelham
First Baptist Church and was a past secretary of Inglenook Civitan Club.
He and his wife, the late Myrtle Dubose Wilson, were the owners of Wilson
Food Store in Inglenook. He was a charter member and served on the board
of directors for Associated Grocers. After retiring from the grocery business,
he worked as a civilian at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, before
retiring again at the age of 70.
He is survived by three sons, Charles Eugene Wilson III of Daphne, James
Douglas Wilson of Clanton, Robert DuBose Wilson of Montevallo; two sisters,
Annie Montgomery and Marie Burch, both of Birmingham; seven grandchildren
and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and interment were held Saturday at Elmwood Cemetery
in Birmingham. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Pelham
First Baptist Church or to a charity of choice.
Local arrangements were by Wolfe Funeral Home in Fairhope.
FLOYD E. LASSITTER
SUMMERDALE — Floyd E. Lassitter, a native and resident of Summerdale,
died Thursday. He was 69.
He is survived by his wife, Laura H. Lassitter of Summerdale; one daughter,
Karen Stanley of Theodore; two sons, Justin Lassitter and Ricky Lassitter,
both of Summerdale; five sisters, Mildred Carlile and Ladonna Peak, both
of Summerdale, Luella Bishop of Fairhope, Eunice Norberg of Los Angeles
and Sandra Bixler of Foley; three brothers, Walter Lassitter of Summerdale,
Norman Lassitter of Silverhill, Johnny Lassitter of Robertsdale; 6 grandchildren,
2 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wynn Cemetery in
Summerdale with the Rev. Richard P. Reedy officiating. Mack Funeral Home
handled arrangements.
Louise Childress
FOLEY - Louise Childress, a native of Georgia and resident of Foley,
died Sunday at her residence. She was 76.
Mrs. Childress was a graduate of North Georgia College with a degree
as a Registered Nurse. She was a member of the Foley Chapter of the Or
der of the Easter Star, past president of the United Methodist Women, a
charter member of Gulf Shores United Methodist Church, and past Mother
Advisor of the Foley Chapter of the Rainbow Girls.
Survivors include her two daughters, Alice L. Taylor of Panama City
Beach, Fla., and Ruth "Freda" Jeffords of Foley; two sons, Thomas H. Childress
of Gulf Shores and Richard A. Childress of Foley; four grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Pine Rest Funeral
Home in Foley. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home
with the Rev. Carl Herndon officiating. Interment will be in Pine Rest
Memorial Park in Foley.
Jack G. Wilson
SEMINOLE - Jack G. Wilson, a native of Sarcoxi, Mo., and a resident
of Seminole, died Saturday. He was 85.
Wilson was a retired Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent.
He is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline Kent of St. Augustine, Fla.;
two sons, Mark D. Wilson of Fairhope and William B. Wilson of Milton, Fla.;
9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Seminole Baptist Church with
visitation one hour before. The family requests any contributions may be
made to Seminole Baptist Church Youth Fund in care of Seminole Baptist
Church, Seminole, AL 36574. Funeral and cremation arrangements are by Mack
Funeral Home.
Ethel Paul Stewart
Ethel Paul Stewart, a Baldwin County native and a Foley resident, died
Friday. She was 88.
Mrs. Stewart is survived by three daughters, Maxine Welch of Foley,
Sarah L. Fenner of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Ruby Sanspree of Summerdale;
seven sons, Robert A. Paul of Prescott, Ariz., Lorenza Paul of Mobile,
William Paul of Spiro, Okla., Grady L. Paul of Bakersfield, Calif., Charles
K. Paul of Bay Minette, Isaac D. Paul of Mobile and Lee Paul of Foley;
one sister, Sarah Kirchharr of Milton; one brother, Arley Minchew of Gateswood,
Ala.; 33 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mack Funeral Home
in Robertsdale. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home. Interment will be in Marlow Methodist Cemetery in Marlow. Arrangements

Addie Long Finn
GILBERTOWN - Addie Long Finn, a Gilbertown resident, died Friday at
a family residence in Needham. She was 84.
Mrs. Finn is survived by one son, Thomas Wilburn Copeland of Needham;
one brother, Weber Long of Gilbertown; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Gilbertown Church of God. Interment
will be in the church cemetery. Phillips Funeral Home in Gilbertown is
handling arrangements.
Seventeen Burdine
Seventeen Burdine, a native of Kosciusko, Miss., and a resident of Bonaire,
Ga., died Saturday in a Hawkinsville, Ga. hospital. He was 68.
He was a U.S. Army Ranger during the Korean War and retired from Civil
Service at Robins AFB. Burdine was a former chief of the Bonaire/Kathleen
Fire Department where he played a prominent role in the development of
that organization. He also assisted in organizing fire departments in Mobile.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy D. Burdine of Bonaire; one son, Andrew
D. Burdine of Bonaire; two brothers, Richard Burdine of Kosciusko, Miss.,
and William Burdine of Pico Rivera, Calif.; and four sisters, Earline Smith
of Kosciusko, Miss., Nellie Myers of Mobile, Dolores Haley of Pearl, Miss.,
and Marie Buxton of Channelview, Texas.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Heritage Memorial Funeral
Home in Warner Robins, Ga. The family will receive friends after the service.
Interment will be at a later date in Kosciusko, Miss. Friends may make

Rosalie Wesley
Rosalie Wesley, a Citronelle native and Compton, Calif. resident, died
Tuesday at a California hospital. She was 80.
Miss. Wesley was a member of Nazareen A.M.E. Zion Church of Citronelle.
Her survivors include one niece, Gladys Taylor of Citronelle; three
great-nieces; 13 great-great-nieces; and nine great-great-great-nieces.
The family will receive friends at Nazareen A.M.E. Zion Church in Citronelle
from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, at which time the services will begin. Interment
will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Citronelle. Arrangements by Christian Benevolent
Funeral Home in Mobile.
Joseph V. Annis
Joseph Vincent Annis, a student at the University of South Alabama,
died Friday in Mobile.
Annis, a Mobile resident, was employed as a waiter at Rousso's Restaurant.
Survivors include his father, Joseph Elliott Annis; his mother, Joy
Anne Annis; and his sister, Katherine Lynn Annis.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home
on Dauphin Street, with a brief service at 6 p.m.

Percy R. Millner
Percy Randolph Millner, who had owned and managed Snelling and Snelling
personnel agency for over 20 years, died Tuesday at the age of 80.
A native of Percyville, Va., Millner resided in Mobile for 37 years,
during which time he was a member of Skyline Country Club.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
His survivors include his daughter, Vaughn Steeves Millner of Mobile;
and two granddaughters.
Chapel services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Mobile Memorial Gardens
Funeral Home with interment in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
Virgil Williams Jr.
Virgil "Glenn" Williams Jr., who had worked for several years and a
service writer technician with L&M Tire Co., died Sunday in a local
hospital at the age of 34.
A native of Odessa, Texas, Williams resided in Wilmer. He enjoyed fishing
and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Denise Langele Williams of
Wilmer; his parents, Virgil and Madgie Williams of Odessa, and Nini
Williams of Fontana, Calif.; three sons, James Godwin of Wilmer, Virgil
Williams and Jeremy Williams, both of Eight Mile; four brothers, Thomas
Williams of Odessa, Shanon Lewis of Bandera, Texas, Donnie Randell of Whistler
and David Randell of Fontana; and three sisters, Donya Long and Daniellia
Hesson, both of Round Rock, Texas, and Ledean Williamson of Eight Mile.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Valhalla Memorial
Funeral Home in Semmes, where services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment
will take place in Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
Charles Harper Sr.
THOMASVILLE — Charles Edwin Harper Sr., a retired truck driver, died
Thursday in a Mobile nursing facility at the age of 90.
Harper, a resident of Thomasville, was a member of Williams Temple CME
Church of Thomasville.
Survivors include six children, Charles E. Harper Jr., Edouida Fairley
and Carolyn Harper, all of Mobile, Bennie W. Harper of Dallas, Texas, Ralph
Harper of Chicago and Harold B. Harper of Aurora, Colo.; and one sister,
Willie Harper Lucy of Mobile.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Williams Temple CME Church
in Thomasville with visitation two hours prior to services. Interment will
take place in Choctaw Corner Cemetery. Reese Funeral Home of Thomasville
is handling arrangements.
Foster Choice Gilley
CHATOM — Foster Choice
Gilley, who had worked as a mechanic for Chatom Motor Co., died Monday
at his home. He was 84.
Gilley was a native and resident of Chatom.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise M. Gilley of Chatom; one son, Foster
Gilley of Chatom; and two sisters, Irma Patrick of Tibbie, Ala., and Lois
Taylor of Chatom.
Services took place Tuesday at Lathon Funeral Home in Chatom with interment
in Chatom Cemetery.

Baptist Church in Washington County.
Levy H. Knox Sr.
NEW YORK, N.Y. — Levy H. Knox Sr., a former Mobile businessman, died
Sept. 7 in a New York health care facility. He was 74.
The native Mobilian had resided in New York more than 35 years.
A graduate of Dunbar High School in Mobile, Knox attended Morehouse
College in Atlanta. After receiving his license in mortuary science, Knox
went into business as a young man as co-founder and owner of Knox Funeral
Home, Knox Fancy Dry Cleaners and Knox Printing Co.
Survivors include his son, Dr. Levy H. Knox Jr. of Mobile; one daughter,
Addie Vaughn of Mobile; one stepdaughter, Toni Pears of Mobile; one brother,
Quentin B. Knox of Mobile; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Leola Frazier Goldsby
Leola Frazier Goldsby, a retired mathematics teacher, died Friday in
a local hospital.
Mrs. Goldsby, 79, a Prichard native, had taught public schools in Georgia
and in the Mobile County Public Schools, retiring after 30 years. In Mobile,
she had taught at the former Stanton Road Elementary School, now A.W. Holloway
School. She has also taught at Sidney Phillips Middle School.
Mrs. Goldsby attended high school at Josephine Allen and went to Alabama
State University.
Her memberships included Samuel Chapel AME Church and the Alabama Retired
Teachers Association.
Survivors include five children, Bettye Frazier Johnson and Leon Jones,
both of Eight Mile, Marion Jones of Washington, D.C., Charles Goldsby and
Earl L. Goldsby, both of Prichard; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be at Samuel Chapel AME Church, 717 W. Prichard Ave.
in Prichard, on Friday from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. service. Interment
will take place in Oaklawn Cemetery with Reese Funeral Home in charge.
Bobby Joe Swafford
Bobby Joe Swafford, who was employed as a construction
worker for Browne & Root, died Tuesday in a local hospital at the
age of 54.
Swafford, a native of Boaz, Ala., was a Mobile area resident.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Stanley Swafford; three children, Shonna
Taylor Lucas of Satsuma, Deneen Swafford Rowan of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.,
and Kerry DeWayne Swafford of Logan, Ala.; two sisters, Ruby Mae Woods
of Mobile and Helen Joyce Clark of Shelby County, Ala.; and six grandchildren.

Doris Carolyn McDuff
Doris Carolyn McDuff, a former teacher's aide, died Wednesday at the
age of 70.
A native of Montgomery, Mrs. McDuff resided in Foley.
Survivors include her husband, Charles D. McDuff of Foley; one daughter,
Judy Conner of Mobile; three sons, Dr. David R. McDuff of Columbia, Md.,
Dr. John C. McDuff of Fairhope and Scott K. McDuff of Foley; one sister,
Joy E. Johnson; and seven grandchildren.

Willie Mae Koen
MILLRY - Willie Mae Atchison Koen, a homemaker and member of Mount Carmel
United Methodist Church, died Wednesday in a Chatom, Ala., hospital. She
was 77.
Mrs. Koen was a lifelong resident of Millry.
Survivors include her husband, John Lee Koen of Millry; three daughters,
Janelle Sanderson, Linda Sanderson and Sue Singleton, all of Millry; one
son, Johnny Koen of Monroeville, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home
in Chatom. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Carmel United

Bonnie Bell Browning
TUSCALOOSA - Bonnie Bell Browning, a former resident of Monroeville,
Ala., died Tuesday in a Tuscaloosa retirement center at the age of 85.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Browning Lee of Birmingham; three
sisters, Carrie Bell, Flora Klepac and Caddie Ballard, all of Tuscaloosa;
and two grandchildren.
Services took place Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville
with interment in First Baptist Church Cemetery.

Shirley Virginia Wolf
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Shirley Virginia Taylor Wolf, who retired from civil
service with the military in 1985, died Friday in Arkansas at the age of
74.
Mrs. Taylor, a native of Robertsdale, resided in Little Rock. She was
a former longtime resident of Pensacola.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Houk of Little Rock; her brother,
George Taylor; and one granddaughter.
Visitation will be at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Robertsdale
on Friday from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. service. Interment will take place
in Silverhill Cemetery.
